Bakehouse Theatre
About
The Bakehouse Theatre is a charming intimate theatre that was first
built to house a bakery in around 1880. In around the 1950's (together
with the building next door) it transformed into a service centre for
taxis. Its life as a theatre began in the 1970's under the name of
the Red Shed. In 1998 it was taken over by Peter Green who gave it
a name which reflects its origins and values its history. It is now
run by Pamela Munt primarily as a venue for hire, but also as a theatre
company producing its own plays as well as co-producing with other
theatre companies. This wide variety of shows means that there is always
something interesting enough to get off that TV couch and into live
theatre! The Bakehouse is keen to encourage emerging artists and offers
various packages with which to do this. The Bakehouse Theatre has won
a number of awards over the years including;-"Best Group"; "Professional
Theatre"; "Best Play"; "Best Actress"; "Enterprise and Excellence"; "Oscart
Award for the Festival of One"; "Best Drama"; "Less is More";"The Light
Year Award for its role as a Development House"; "Best Use of Multi-Media" and "Best
New Script".
